Inside 180°: Brian Hendrickson

Brian Hendrickson is the founding member and Principal Architect at 180º Urban Design. He is a specialist in Traditional Neighborhood Design, offering regional responses to both urban design and architectural design projects. The focus of Hendrickson’s career as an architect, and indeed the focus of 180º Urban Design, is to unite great planning with elegant, pragmatic, environmentally responsible architectural solutions.

Through his focus in urban design, and more than 18 years of experience in educational, commercial, residential and retail architecture, Hendrickson provides both proven expertise and creative vision for 180º Design Studio. His built designs have been featured in the Taunton publications: Classic Cottage by Brian Coleman and Douglas Keister, and 500 Bungalows by Douglas Keister. Recent published works include: featured home plans in the November, 2006 issue of Cottage Living magazine and the March, 2008 issue of Coastal Living magazine.

Hendrickson has extensive experience, working nationally in urban design and architectural design charrettes. He has been a featured speaker for the Mid America Regional Council, The Home Builder’s Association of Greater Kansas City, and was also a featured presenter and panel member at the 2007 New Urban Guild’s Autumn Workshop at the Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference in New Orleans.

Hendrickson serves as a board member for Academie Lafayette, the top performing public charter school in the state of Missouri and is involved with the Missouri Charter Public School Association which is as an advocacy group for charter schools in Missouri.

Brian Hendrickson is a co-leader of the senior design studio for the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Additionally, Hendrickson has served on the Board of Directors for Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City since 2003. He is an elected officer for The Mankind Project® of Kansas City and a past committee member for the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association and Gillham Road Improvement Project. He is also the proud father of three daughters.
