Seaside, FL, the famous resort town on the Florida panhandle, has been a laboratory for all manner of urban design and architectural efforts for 30 years. Of the many reasons the town is famous, one of the lesser-known is how the developers, Robert & Daryl Davis, have been constant tinkerers in the world of start-up retail and incremental building. Their experiments have given designers and planners numerous lessons in how to cultivate small, local, retailing. In particular, several years ago they used these Airstream trailers to line the street and the main square, giving a pseudo-permanent food and dining installation in the heart of the town center. The provision of cheap, clever, food and drink all at once is a great lesson for any public space or street.P6050592 1024x768

  1. That looks cool, so is each Airstream a little restaurant? or are they just open for use like picnic tables?

  2. Kevin Klinkenberg says:

Indeed, each one is its own little restaurant, and they share the dining space.
