Founded in 1555 by the Spanish colonialists, San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is a feast for the senses. Set in a beautiful and mountainous portion of central Mexico, the vistas from the city’s elegant city grid are only matched by the street scenes and architecture of the town itself. On this particular day, the Plaza Allende, or Jardin Principal (Main Garden), in the central part of the old town is temporarily over-run by cyclists on a regional tour. Once again, the provision of quality public space where it’s needed provides for a multitude of activities, sociability, and just plain fun.
